KCET is the preeminent public television station in Southern California. Broadcasting on Channel 28 in Los Angeles, the studio is located at 4401 West Sunset Boulevard. Hallmark programs include Life & Times and Huell Howser's California's Gold. They also produce the weekday program The Tavis Smiley Show and recently, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, have produced a six-part miniseries in conjunction with the BBC called Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State.
KCET purchased the property for their studio in Los Angeles in 1971, assisted financially in part by both the Ford Foundation and the Michael Connell Foundation.
