Jordan, Guimaras
Jordan is a municipality located in the western part of Guimaras in the Philippines. Considered to be the "gateway to Guimaras". It is bounded by the three municipalities of the province, Buenavista to the north and the newly created Municipality of San Lorenzo to the east and Sibunag to the south. Before founding of the five towns, the whole island of Guimaras was originally called Himal-us.
The name Jordan was chosen by the residents in honor of St. John the Baptist, their patron saint, who according to the ancient of locality saved the inhabitants from slaughter during the Moro raid in the Spanish era. Nueva Valencia in turn was established as a separate municipality in 1941. It was only on July 1995 when the Municipality of San Lorenzo and Municipality of Sibunag was created leaving Jordan with only 14 barangays wherein before these two towns was created the municipality was composed of 33 barangays.
