Jon Scieszka
Jon Scieszka is an American author of children's literature born September 8th, 1954 in Flint, Michigan. He is the second oldest of five sons to father Louis Scieszka, an elementary school principal, and mother Shirly, a Registered Nurse.
Jon first attended Culver Military College in Indiana, graduating after three years, and then started studying medicine at Albion College. He received a B.A. in writing in 1976, and turned down an acceptance to Johns Hopkins Medical School, opting instead to attend Columbia University's writing program where he received his Master of Fine Arts in 1980. After graduating, Jon worked in a variety of capacities: teaching elementary school, writing for magazines, painting apartments, and working as a carpenter and lifeguard.
Today Jon lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife Jerilyn, son Jake, and daughter Casey.
