Joe Dundee

Joe Dundee (August 16 1903–March 31 1982 was born Samuel Lazzaro in Italy. The Lazzaro family immigrated to Baltimore, Maryland. Eventually, Samuel changed his name to Joe Dundee and began his career in boxing. Interestingly, his brother Vince, also changed his name to Dundee and embarked on a boxing career.

His career began inauspiciously in 1919 with two straight losses in four-round bouts. Nevertheless, Dundee continued boxing and on June 3 1927 in New York, Dundee defeated the world welterweight champion Pete Latzo on a 15-round decision.

Dundee lost his crown when he was disqualified in two rounds in a bout with Jackie Wilson. He retired from the ring with a record of 89 wins (23 KOs), 26 losses, and 10 draws. He was also credited with scoring a TKO victory over hall of famer Mickey Walker.
