Joe Deters
Joseph T. Deters is an American politician of the Republican party who currently serves as Prosecuting Attorney of Hamilton County, Ohio.
Deters was the county prosecutor of Hamilton County, Ohio in the 1990s, resigning in 1999 because he had been elected Ohio State Treasurer. His successor Michael K. Allen was embroiled in a sex scandal in the fall of 2004 that led to his withdrawal from his re-election bid and Deters's successful write-in candidacy for the post of prosecutor. He resigned as State Treasurer in January 2005 to become prosecutor once more.
Deters's tenure as treasurer was marked with multiple scandals, leading to criminal indictments and some convictions of several members of his staff. In 2004, former Chief of Staff Michael Borges was convicted of misuse of a public office after he admitted to giving preferential treatment to some brokers. Fundraiser Eric Sagun was convicted of violating campaign financing laws. Deters has denied any wrongdoing connected with these cases.
He is a resident of Blue Ash, Ohio, moving there from Liberty Township, Butler County the day of the filing deadline for the prosecutor race.
