João Fernandes Lavrador

João Fernandes Lavrador (?–1501) was a Portuguese sea explorer.

He owned farmland on the island of Terceira in the Azores island group.

The Canadian region of Labrador is named for Lavrador, who likely visited Greenland in 1500 and named the land he encountered Terra do Lavrador (Lavrador's Land). Lavrador is Portuguese for "farmer" or "landholder".

Although details of his life are uncertain, Lavrador is believed to have died in 1501 while travelling by sea to America.
