The term chigger (or jigger or red bug) can refer to either of two distinct parasitic arthropods with similar behaviors. One of the insects called a chigger is the chloe flea (Tunga penetrans), while the other one, which is commonly found in North America, is the larva of the harvest mite (Trombicula alfreddugesi.)
