Magirus

(Redirected from Iveco Magirus)

Magirus is the founder of 'Magirus Feuerwehrwerke Ulm', a company that made equipment for firefighters in the beginning of the 20th century. It is also the name of the trucks and busses the company started making in the middle of the 20th century. Originally only for fire-fighters, later on industrial vehicles that got known as very rubust and are still operating in some of the worlds toughest climates.

This company also invented the turntable ladder which is inbetween the most popular and one of the most important vehicles of the firefighters.

The logo of Magirus is a stylised 'M' with three sharp points that portrait the three towers of the church in the city of Ulm, Germany, where the factory was located.

In 1975 Magirus was purchased by Iveco who carried on producing some of Magirus' trucks for a short while under the name of 'Iveco Magirus' before being abandoned completely.

Most trucks from Magirus are also known as 'Magirus Deutz' because the aircooled engine came from the factory of Deutz AG. These engines are still being sold for agricultural and nautical use.
