It Was Written was the second album by Queensbridge rapper Nas for the Columbia Records label. Primarily produced by Poke and Tone of Trackmasters Entertainment, it was a marked departure from the more underground-styled Illmatic towards more commercial fare. It features the singles "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)" (featuring Lauryn Hill of The Fugees) and "Street Dreams" (the remix to which features R. Kelly).
