It Came from the Desert

It Came from the Desert is a computer game published by Cinemaware for IBM PC, Amiga and Sega Genesis/MegaDrive in 1990.

Inspired by B-movies of the 1950s (most obviously Them!), It Came from the Desert casts the player in the role of a geologist in Lizard Breath, an isolated town in America's Midwest which is threatened by giant ants after a meteorite lands in the desert nearby. The game was quite popular, mainly due to its large scope and variety of gameplay, combining elements of adventure, roleplaying and action games.

It Came from the Desert was considered "abandonware" for some time and distributed by web sites like Home of the Underdogs, but versions for all three platforms are now freely available from Cinemaware's web site.
