Interstate 296
Interstate 296 is a 3.4 mile, unsigned, urban north-south Interstate Highway entirely within Grand Rapids, Michigan. Its termini are Interstate 96 on the north side of Grand Rapids and Interstate 196 near downtown Grand Rapids. It wholly coincides with U.S. Highway 131, itself a long-distance freeway into which it feeds to and from seamlessly. The designation Interstate 296 is thus superfluous, and any signs for it have long been removed.
The designation could conceivably be re-used for the new freeway (now designated as Michigan State Highway 6), only partially complete, that will eventually as a bypass of the south and west sides of Grand Rapids.
