Internet privacy

The Internet is a series of connected networks and computers that communicate through the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, TCP/IP, to provide information and transfer data. Privacy is the right to unauthorized intrusion. Hence, Internet privacy is the right to utilize that series of connected networks and computers without fear of personal identifiable information being intercepted or tracked. Individual identifiable information (name, address, and email) is intercepted or tracked surreptitiously by web advertisers. Web advertisers use a number of covert methods such as spy ware, cookies, web bugs, web banners, and pop ups to violate Internet privacy. Those methods involve storing packets of information on the computer of a website user without authorization. The web advertiser has the capability to retrieve and read those packets of information. However, privacy protection software and programs such as “Spy Sweeper,” Firewalls, and popup blockers exists to combat the deceptive methods of web advertiser and increase anonymity.

Any web site can track your movements through its pages and monitor your reading interests using your IP address. A web site can easily exploit security holes in your system using only your IP address and your operating system type.

Governments and organizations may set up websites with controversial topics for attracking unware people. This information is potentially dangerous for individuals.

Therefore, how to protect your privacy on Internet is necessary and urgent.

The simplest way to surf the Internet with privacy and anonymity is to use anonymous proxy servers. They serve as agents between you and your desired web sites, like buffers and shields. However, it is not easy to determine if a proxy server is really anomymous or not for common users.

If a hacker knows your IP, he/she can attack you directly, scan your computer to find vulnerable open ports, and get some information about you from whois services.
