Inspector-general
Inspector General (IG) is a fact finding officer whose responsibility is to investigate charges of corruption, fraud, waste and abuse and other complaints regarding government officials. An Inspector General is now present in all US federal departments and most agencies as the result of the Inspector General Act of 1978, its amendments, and numerous Executive Orders. Inspectors General are also present in most if not all state governments. In the military, an Inspector General is also charged with efficiency and readiness concerns as well as the normal duties. Also called the Principal Deputy Inspector General.
