Insolia

Insolia is the trademarked name for a recently developed component in the design of the high-heeled shoe, the brainchild of New Jersey podiatrist Dr. Howard Dananberg. Its purpose is, based on intensive research of angles of pressure in the feet, to adjust weight distribution through the shoe's redesign to minimize the pain associated with wearing high-heeled shoes.

Technology


With ordinary high-heeled shoes, the body weight is concentrated to the toes. This can make the wearer unconfortable. The Insolia design shifts the weight to the heel in an attempt to reduce pain in the feet.

Marketing

The makers of Insolia are working to expand their share in the market of high-heeled shoes. In the United States, shoes with the component can be found at the retail stores of Bloomingdale's, DKNY, JC Penney, Nordstrom, and select various other department stores and shoe stores. The technology is also marketed in Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Early in 2005, Insolia reported that Qantas, a major Australian airline, had chosen shoes containting the Insolia component as necessary footwear for its 7,000 flight attendants.
