Inland Sea, Gozo
The Inland Sea, sometimes called Qawra in Maltese, is a geological fault where probably the roof of a very large cave collapsed up to 100 metres so that a land-locked basin of seawater opened into the Mediterranean Sea. It communicates with it by an almost "gothic" arch. No sandy beach is there, the bottom of this Inland Sea is mostly pebbles and rocks. Huts of fishermen it partly encircle, their boats – luzzijiet are moored there. They take visitors through the archway for a tour of the cliffs and other sites, mainly to the Fungus Rock and the Azure Window, both of them very near.
