Ink Flag (Israel)

The Ink Flag or The Ink Flag, refers to an episode during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War when an improvised ink-made flag ("The Ink Flag") was raised over Eilat by units of the newly established Israel Defense Force claiming Eilat for Israel.

On March 5 1948, Operation Uvda was launched. On March 10, the Israelis reached Um Rashrash now known as Eilat and conquered it without a battle. The Negev Brigade and Golani Brigade took part in the operation. They raised an ink-made flag ("The Ink Flag") and claimed Eilat for Israel.

The flag is essentialy like the present flag of Israel, but is distinctive in that the Star of David is solid, rather than partitioned and hollow.
