Inga-Shaba
Inga-Shaba is the name for a HVDC-scheme in between Kolwezi and Inga in Zaire, which went in service in 1979. This scheme equipped with modern thyristor technology can transmit 560 megawatts at a symmetrical bipolar voltage of +/-500 kilovolts. At 1700 kilometers, it is the longest HVDC transmission line to date. Because the line runs through inaccessible terrain, for each pole a separate right of way was used.
