In the Name of the Father

In the Name of the Father is a 1993 film directed by Jim Sheridan which tells the story of a man, falsely convicted of the Provisional IRA's Guildford pub bombing, who tries to prevent his father from being involved in the accusation. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Pete Postlethwaite and Emma Thompson.

The movie was adapted by Terry George and Jim Sheridan from the autobiography Proved Innocent by Gerry Conlon. However, the film is not a true story as widely believed, merely based in part on actual events.

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Daniel Day-Lewis), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Pete Postlethwaite), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Emma Thompson), Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.
