In Our Lifetime
In Our Lifetime was a 1981 album by soul music great Marvin Gaye.
With all songs written, produced, arranged and composed by Gaye himself, it serves as one of the singer's best albums in his later-day period in Motown Records. It was to be the last album for Motown after 20 years for Gaye, who complained that the label rushed most of the recording, edited and remixed the entire collection without Marvin's permission. It was recorded mostly in a studio Gaye rented in London during his exile from America. Two songs – "Praise" and "Heavy Love Affair" – were both released from the album but the highest any of the songs made on any chart was #18 R&B ("Praise"). Despite that, Gaye presented another critically-acclaimed effort and was the first since his famed "What's Going On" album to explore Gaye's philosophical and religious sides as well as a new funkier side to his character and music.
