Ice metal

Ice metal is a type of music. It is a sub-genre of metal.

Ice metal is differs from other sub-genres of metal more in musical style than in lyrics and attitude. The main distinctive components are use of a lot of electronic musical instruments taken from the 80's icy sound (which began with the New Romantics and Synth Pop scenes). These instruments suggest ice, snow and brilliant aesthetics. The principle instrument used is the keyboard, with guitars in second place. Some of the bands have two or three keyboardists.

The most prominent and representative band in the ice metal scene is probably the Finnish band Sonata Arctica, who used ice imagery (and sometimes themes) extensively. Other examples are:
