Ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympics will be held at the Torino Olympic Palasport Stadio Comunale Area and the Torino Esposizioni in Turin, Italy. The men's tournament will be held from February 15 to 26 and the women's tournament from February 11 to 20.

Qualification
The top four teams from the International Ice Hockey Federation world rankings following the 2005 Women's Ice Hockey World Championships qualified automatically. They were Canada, the United States, Finland, and Sweden. Italy gained a place as the nost nation. Russia, Germany, and Switzerland qualified for the last three places through special qualification tournaments.

Qualification
Twelve places were allotted for the men's ice hockey tournament at the 2006 Winter Olympics. The first eight were awarded to the top eight teams in the International Ice Hockey Federation ranking following the 2004 Ice Hockey World Championship. Those teams were:

The ninth place was given to the host nation, Italy. The final three places were allotted through qualification tournaments, with Switzerland, Kazakhstan, and Latvia winning places in that manner.
