Icarus is a fictional character, a mutant superhero in the Marvel Comics universe. He is a member of the student body at the Xavier Institute, and a member of the New Mutants squad therein. His real name is Joshua "Jay" Guthrie. He first appeared in Rom Annual #3.
Jay has red, angel-like wings that allow him to fly. He has regenerative abilities, and can vocally mimic any sound he hears or imagines (for example, he can sound like a whole choir when singing). He is a naturally skilled musician.
Jay is the son of Thomas Zebulon Guthrie (also referred to as "Ty" and "Zeke") and Lucinda Guthrie. Jay's older siblings Sam ((Cannonball)) and Paige ((Husk)) are both mutants as well, and both have been members of the X-Men. Another of their siblings, Jeb, has developed the mutant ability to project electricity from his eye. Their sister Elizabeth was a member of the Mutant Elite Force in the alternate universe called the Age of Apocalypse, where she was known as Amazon.
In the Uncanny X-Men story arc "She Lies With Angels" (issues #438–441, written by Chuck Austen and modeled after Romeo and Juliet), Jay fell in love with Julia Cabot, but due to a long feud between the Guthries and the Cabots a fight broke out, and Julia was accidentally killed. After Julia's death Jay attempted to kill himself, but was unsuccesful due to his healing factor. He was subsequently sent to the Xavier Institute and joined the newest team of New Mutants.
