Hyde Park, Leeds
Hyde Park is an inner-city area of north-west Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, situated between Leeds University and Headingley. It is the centre of the city's student community and has a laid-back, bohemian atmosphere. It is also home to sizable south Asian and Afro-Caribbean communities. The area suffers considerable social deprivation including high unemployment, bad housing stock and one of the highest crime rates in the country, particularly for burglaries. In 1998 the area suffered serious rioting after the taking over of a local pub by the police to be used in surveillance.
