Plot

The series follows the adventure of five people chosen by the Power Animals to become the GaoRangers to defeat the sinister Org Tribe, led by the Grand Dukes, in a war that started & paused from 1000 years ago.

Characters

Gaorangers

The Gaoranger during the series and some of the movies refer to each other by color rather than name. Hurricanger Vs. Gaoranger is the only production where the Gaoranger refer to each other by name.

Kakeru Shishi/GaoRed: Nickname, "Blazing Lion". He was chosen by GaoLion to become leader of the Gaorangers. Before Kakeru became a Gaoranger, he was a veterinarian, and loved animals, especially his golden retriever Choco. Kakeru had the ability to reach out to animals, he understands them. He though he could do the same with Orgs, but was wrong. He is in charge of forming the upper body in the Gaoranger mecha formations.

Gaku Washio/Gao Yellow: Nickname, "Noble Eagle". At first, Gaku was very humorless, he was upset that Kakru has been chosen leader, and not him. As time went on, Gaku opened up to everyone. Gaku is the one who insists that the Gaoranger refer to each other by color and not use their personal names. He is in charge of forming any leftover parts for the Gaoranger mecha formations

Kai Samezu/Gao Blue: Nickname, "Surging Shark". A energentic, and suspiciously playful guy. He doesn't like it when the others call him a kid. He is in charge of forming the right arm for the Gaoranger mecha formations.

Soutarou Ushigome/GaoBlack: Nickname, "Iron Bison". A gentle soul who came a Gaoranger before Kakeru joined the team. He is in charge of forming the Lower Body for the Gaoranger mecha formations.

Sae Taiga/GaoWhite: Nickname, "Tiger Belle". She is an incredibly level-headed young woman. She is in charge of forming the Left Arm for the the Gaoranger Mecha Formations.

Shirogane/Oogami Tsukumaro/GaoSilver: Nickname, "Shining Wolf". 1 thousand years ago, the Gao God was defeated by the particularly dangerous Grand Duke Hyakumaru, a fusion of an 100 Orgs. In desperation, Shirogane donned the cursed mask of Loki, which gave him the extra power they'd need to defeat the mighty Org. He got three magical Power Animals (Wolf, Alligator and Hammerhead Shark) and combine them with his own companion. Despite frantic warning from their priestess, Murasaki, that the mask would possess him, he did it. He lasted long enough to defeat the Org. Then the mask transformed him into Loki. He begged his former companions to stop him while he still had a vestige of control. He was released by Ura centires later to destory the present day Gaorangers of present-time. But once freed of the mask, he became GaoSilver & helped in any way he could. He also adopted a modern name for himself, Oogami Tsukumaro.

Help

Tetomu: The Shrine maiden of the Animairum who serves as mentor to the current Gaoranger team.

Futaro: A mysterious boy that the Gaorangers befriend. Later he is revealed to be the human form of the reborn Gao God. It turned that as GaoRed & GaoSilver were fighting Ura, the other four were ressurected when awakening GaoFalcon. But the four unknownably ressurected Gao God as well. However at one point he took the Power Animals (Except for Gao Silvers') away from the Gaorangers, deeming that humanity does not deserve their help because humans are wasteful creatures and only pollute the earth. But later he had a change of heart and returned the Power Animals and then left. He later showed up in the finale to help against the revived Grand Duke Orgs.

Murasaki: Tetomu's grandmother who servered as the mentor to the original Gaoranger team.

Power Animals

Each of the Gaorangers possess a Totem Power Animal to whom their powers are based off of. They also possess additonal Power Animals as well. Each Power Animal possess an orb it entrusts the GaoRanger it bounded with. Although there are numerous Power Animal Combinations, what is listed here is the combinations that appeared in the show, the movies, and a few other sources.

GaoKing- Combination of the Five main Gaoranger's Power Animals. It's Finisher Attack is called Animal Heart which is a powerful blast attack shot from GaoLions mouth.
- GaoLion- GaoRed's Totem Power Animal. Becomes GaoKing's Upper Torso or GaoKentaurus's Lower Torso and Feet.
- GaoEagle: GaoYellow's Totem Power Animal. It can transform into GaoKing's head or become a waist for the GaoMuscle/GaoKnight Formations.
- GaoShark- GaoBlue's Totem Power Animal. Becomes a Right Arm Part. Its formation special attack is Shark Shot which can be used alongside GaoTigers attack and it can also use its dorsal fin as a small knive-like weapon called Fin Blade.
- GaoBison- GaoBlack's Totem Power Animal. Becomes GaoKing's, GaoMuscle's, and GaoKnight's Lower Torso and Feet. It's formation special attack is called Bison Kick where it can kick an Org.
- Gao Tiger- GaoWhite's Totem Power Animal. Becomes a Left Arm Part. It's formation special attack is called Tiger Burn, a punch attack that can be used alongside GaoSharks attack.

GaoElephant: One of GaoWhite's additional Power Animals, its orb was found with a scroll in a temple. GaoElephant rested within a cave until it awoken. GaoElephant can transform into a sword and shield weapon that can only be wielded by GaoShark and GaoTiger. When used with GaoKing it can create GaoKing Sword and Shield, where it can provide some protection and stike the Org with an energised Sword Attack.

Gao Muscle- Combination of GaoGorilla, GaoBear, & Gao Polar with usually GaoBison & GaoEagle. But it can also combine with GaoRhino & GaoArmadillo to form GaoMuscle Striker. GaoMuscle also wields an anchor & chain, called Muscle Anchor, which it can use to knock its target out. It's finishing move is called Bear Punches where GaoBear and GaoPolar can strike the Org with Energized Punches. While GaoMuscle Stiker's finishing move is Rhino Shoot.

- GaoGorilla- One of GaoRed's additional Power Animals. Becomes GaoMuscles Upper Torso and Head. Awakened by a woman the Gaorangers befriend when they unknowably travel back in time during their journey to find a mushroom that will heal GaoLion after GaoKing is forced apart when the GaoBear and GaoPolar don't accept him.

- GaoBear & GaoPolar- GaoYellow's additional Power animals who originally appeared as mysterious twin boys in black and white outfits. Two Bear twins, GaoBear uses the power of fire and GaoPolar uses the power of ice. Gao Bear transforms into a left arm part and Gao Polar transforms into a right arm part. Combine with either GaoKing or GaoHunter & add the word Double Knuckle to that formation's name. Their speciality move Bear Strike is where they can bombard the Org with beams of Fire and Ice. They didn't identially accept GaoLion.

GaoHunter- Combination of Gao Silver's Power Animals. It's Weapons are Moon Bommerang and Ligator Blade. It's finishing moves are Beast Hurricane, a blast attack from GaoAlligator's mouth, similar to GaoKings Animal Heart and Revolver Phantom where it dashes into its opponent with an spinning Ligator Blade. At one time it was cursed while it was under the control of Loki. But after the curse was broken the Org horn on its head disolved and it regained its true face so Gao Silver decided to rename it to GaoHunter Justice. After GaoGod took away the other Gaorangers Power Animals, GaoHunter had a tough time against Tinplate Org. But with the energy that the other Gaorangers drew in from their Totem Power Animals, GaoHunter was temporarily powered up into GaoHunter Blue Moon and with GaoGod's help Tinplate Org was defeated.

- GaoWolf- GaoSilver's Totem Power Animal. Can act as a Left Arm part. Can also act as a Left Arm Part to another mecha adding the name Another Arm when the GaoHunter Formation is not possible.
- GaoHammerhead- One of GaoSilver's additional Power Animals. Acts as a Right Arm part. Like GaoWolf it can also combine with another mecha if the GaoHunter Formation is not possible.
- GaoAlligator- One of GaoSilver's additional Power Animals. It becomes GaoHunters main body and feet. Its Tail becames the Ligator Blade weapon for GaoHunter.

GaoIcarus- Combination of GaoFalcon, GaoGiraffe, GaoDeer, GaoRhino, and GaoArmadillo. Using GaoFalcon's Wings it can fly into the sky or act as shield from Org attacks. Some of its exclusive techniques are Icarus Bind where the eyes on GaoFalcons Wings can bind an Org in place and its finishing move is Icarus Dynamite which is an enhanced version of Rhino Shoot that is performed as a flip kick from midair. Once when all the other Power Animals that make up GaoIcarus except for GaoFalcon were badly damaged from Steam Engine Org, GaoFalcon fused with GaoWolf, GaoHammerhead, and GaoBison to create GaoIcarus Another Foot and Arm. Although for some reason GaoIcarus Another Foot and Arm could use GaoHunters Ligator Blade even though GaoAlligator was not part of the combination.
- GaoFalcon- One of GaoRed's additional Power Animals. Becomes GaoIcarus/GaoKentaurus's Upper Torso and Head. After the Grand Duke Ura killed all the Gaorangers except for GaoRed and GaoSilver, the other Gaorangers in the afterlife were able to put a puzzle together that not only awakened GaoFalcon's power but it also returned them to life.
- GaoGiraffe- GaoBlue's Additional Power Animal. It was originally in the form of a crane and sent dreams to GaoBlue where GaoKing was no match for Boat Org. During the GaoKing battle Tetomu realizes that a Power Animal was calling to him. So GaoBlue calls out to the Power Animal and the crane GaoBlue used earlier during their fight against Boat Org revealed its true form as GaoGiraffe. Can transform into a right arm part where it becomes a Spear, It adds the word Spear to that mecha's name when used with the GaoKing, GaoHunter, or GaoMuscle Striker formations.
- GaoDeer- One of GaoWhite's Additional Power Animals. Has healing Powers and transforms into a left arm part where its antlers are a weapons. When used with GaoKing and GaoMuscle Striker it adds the word Cross Horn to that mecha's name. At one time in the past Shirogane and Murasaki used to play music for it. But after Murasaki's throat was injured from some Orgettes, when Shirogane failed to protect her, it became angry at him and left. With some help from Tetomu, Shirogane was able to help it forgive him and it gave Shirogane its Gao Orb. Afterwards Shirogane gave it to GaoWhite. During its first battle against Gravestone Org it used Bubble Capture to remove the Power of 3,000 years ago (Loki's energy) and sent it into the sky, until it was released by the Org in the following episode. It can also use its Antler Rings to bind an Org. Once against Flute Org, while in the GaoIcarus formation, GaoDeer used a move called Horn Crush where it binded and killed Flute Org with its antlers by crushing it to death.
- GaoRhino & GaoArmadillo- GaoBlack's Additonal Power Animals. They were summoned by GaoBison to help against Loki after it was badly damaged from Lawnmower Org. GaoArmadillo originally appeared in a miniaturized form when it gave their orbs to Gao Black. It's special move Rhinos Shoot is where GaoRhino kicks GaoArmadillo at its opponent like a soccer ball. Other than being used as the Lower Torso and Feet for Gao Icarus it can also replace GaoBison in the GaoKing formation or GaoBison and GaoEagle in the GaoMuscle Formation adding the word Striker to either of those mecha's names. GaoArmadillo was once used by GaoKing Another Arm as a Bowling Ball in order to counter Bowling Org's Bowling Ball.

GaoKentaurus- Combination of GaoFalcon, GaoShark, GaoTiger, GaoElephant, and a giant GaoLion. When ToruToru trapped the Gaorangers in Hell where the spirits of the previous fallen Orgs were, they were cut off from their Power Animals when ToruToru became giant. At that time Tetomu was Rasetsu's prisoner who wanted her to cook for him. But Tetomu was then rescued by the Power Animals. Remembering how the Gaoranger loved her cooking she casts a spell on a piece of food and sends it into GaoLion's mouth cause it to grow a few inches. GaoKentaurus then saved the GaoRangers from ToruToru. GaoKentaurus was also used to finish off Rasetsu in the following battle.

GaoGod: The God of all Power Animals. It's attacks are Tenchi Power Arrow (Where GaoGod shoots its sword like an arrow) and Haramariken sword slash (An energized sword slash). It was used by the ancient Gaorangers and was made from older versions of the current main Gaoranger's Totem Power Animals. GaoLeon (Forms the Upper Torso), GaoBuffalo (Forms the Lower Torso and Feet) GaoSawShark (Forms the Right Arm and its nose is used as GaoGods weapon), GaoCondor (Forms the head) and GaoJaguar (Forms the Left Arm). He was killed 1,000 years ago by the Grand Duke Hyakumaru, which forced Shirogane to become don Loki's mask. Later on he appeared in spirit form to help the Gaorangers restore Shirogane to normal, including temporarily blocking the full moon that caused Loki to temporarily revert back to Shirogane. He was later revived as the human boy Futaro. In the Gaoranger Movie, GaoSilver piloted GaoGod during battle

Soul Bird – A special creature that can increase the power of the Power Animal combinations (Except for GaoHunter). Originally the mushroom that is supposed to heal GaoLion transformed into an egg which hatched into a small bird named Pyon. In episode 14, Pyon evolved into the Soul Bird in order to help the Gaorangers defeat Shuten. Since then the Soul Bird has been used with every one of the Gaorangers formations. When used with GaoKing it can allow it to use Super Animal Heart an enhanced verison of Animal Heart. This is where the blast attack is not only shot from GaoLion's mouth, but also from GaoSharks, GaoTigers, and GaoBisons mouths as well. But in order for it to work all four of the mentioned Power Animals must be in good condition. In the GaoRanger Vs. Super Sentai Movie, Super Animal Heart was enhanced by the power from the Mecha Formations of the previous Sentai (The First Mecha Formation for the Sentai that had more than one formation are only seen) during the battle against Rakushaasa. Once when Vase Org transported Gao King and GaoHunter into another Dimension a part of the Soul Bird split from it and became Yon an evil version of Pyon. But thanks to Tetomu who convinced it, Yon becomes the Soul Bird and GaoMuscle Striker is formed for the first time. Afterwards the two Soul Birds became one again. In the official Toy lines it can become a Left Arm Part as well.

GaoKnight: This and GaoKong are exclusive only to the Gaoranger Movie. It is combination of GaoKong, GaoEagle, GaoShark, GaoTiger, GaoBison, and GaoElephant.

Gao Panda: Exclusive only to the Gao Acess CD.

GaoCracker: It is where GaoShark and GaoTiger could replace GaoBear and GaoPolar in the GaoMuscle Formation that would create GaoCracker. Although there was an official picture, it never appeared on the show.

Org Tribe

A race of Oni.

Grand Duke Orgs/Senki
- Shuten: The first of the Grand Dukes to be awaken, this multi-eyed Org wanted to take over the world. Short-tempered, he wields an axe & can strech his arms. Shuten was killed by Ura, who drained and absorbed all his power. Shuten was later ressurected in the series finale to be fused with the others to become Senki.
- Ura: The 2nd Grand Duke to be awaken, with a nnose-like face & ear-like projections on his back. Obsessed with collecting beautiful things, he was the one who woke Loki. He used a magic mirror to see things at a distance & carried a fan as his weapon. GaoSilver killed him, but Ura returned used the power of 3000 years rage to evolve in a more powerful form, but was killed by GaoRangers. Ura was later ressurected in the series finale to be fused with the others to become Senki.
- Hagura Highness Rakushaasa: An hairy Org exclusive to Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai movie. He was dormant until he awaken. It took the combined force of all previous Sentai to to destroy him. He was only Grand Duke not to be revived by the series finale.
- Rasetsu: The Final Grand Duke to be awaken, a mass of mouths with male & female voices. It was ravenous, wanting to eat & using a knife as his weapon. He met his end at the hands of the Power Animals. Rasetsu was later ressurected in the series finale to be fused with the others to become Senki.

Duke Orgs
- Tsuetsue: A arrogant Org priestess whose magic is great. She developed an instant hatred of GaoWhite for calling her "Grandma". She uses the seeds fires from her staff to revive/enlarge Orgs. After surving the cave-in of their base, TsueTsue & Yaibaiba teamed up with the Jakenja in Hurricanger vs. Gaoranger. They were finally defeated by the two teams.
- Yabaiba: A craze master of knives who claimed himself to GaoYellow's greatest rival(Though the feelin wasn't mutual). Yabaiba fell in love with Tsuetsue over the course of the series. After surving the cave-in of their base, Yaibaiba & TsueTsue teamed up with the Jakenja in Hurricanger vs. Gaoranger. They were finally defeated by the two teams.
- Loki: A Org who corrupted the Power Animals that form GaoHunter & was imprisoned within a cursed mask. When Shirogane put on a evil wolf mask & became Loki, their spirits became intertwined. It was after Shirogane was freed from the mask's curse that Loki was released from his imprisonment & he attempted to kill Silver for using him and his power. During the battle against Loki, Shirogane was relucant to accept help from the other Gaorangers. But once he opened up, Shirogane managed to defeat Loki. Loki was eventually killed by GaoHunter.

- Torutoru (42–43): A ninja Duke Org.
- Zeus: Exclusive to movie, the oldest brother. Power over thunder.
- Poseidon: Exclusive to movie, the middle brother. Power over water.
- Hades: Exclusive to movie, the youngest brother. Power over wind.
