Hum was a band.

Biography
Based out of Champaign, Illinois Hum began it's incarnation in 1990. At this time Matt Talbott and Jeff Dimpsey were already playing in the band Honcho Overload, at which time Matt played bass, and the final members apparently met while Matt was working in a cafe called Treno's in Illinois.
After signing with RCA in 1994 "You'd Prefer an Astronaut" was released. They reached national fame with there quasi hit "Stars" which landed them on such shows as Beavis and Butthead and Howard Stern.
In 2000 they parted ways, but reunited in 2003 at Furnacefest.
