Hugh J. Gallen
Hugh J. Gallen (July 30, 1924–December 29, 1982) was the governor of the U.S. state of New Hampshire from 1978 until his death. Born in Portland, Oregon, he was a Democrat. He was twice elected for two-year terms as governor and did not run for reelection in 1982. In November 1982 he became seriously ill due to a rare blood infection and was unable to function. Forced to yield his powers to the president of the Senate, who became acting governor, he died a few days before the inauguration of his successor, John H. Sununu.
