Hubert George de Burgh-Canning, 15th Earl of Clanricarde
Hubert George de Burgh-Canning, 15th Earl of Clanricarde, and 2nd Marquess of Clanricarde, died unmarried in 1916, in London. He was unmourned in Ireland, where he had an entirely deserved reputation as one of the worst and repressive landlords in the country.
In 1800, the 13th Earl of Clanricarde was granted a second Earldom of Clanricarde, with a special remainder, failing his male issue, to his daughters by primogeniture, and the heirs male of their bodies.
On the death of his grandson, Hubert, the 1800 Earldom passed to the Marquesses of Sligo, who were descended from the 13th Earl's eldest daughter Hester Catherine de Burgh. Hester had had married the 2nd Marquess of Sligo.
