Home

Home is a word that a person identifies with a place they live, spend much of their time, or feel generally comfortable with. While a house (or other residential dwelling) is often referred to as a home, and is home to many people, the concept of "home" is broader than a physical dwelling. Home is often a place of refuge and safety, where worldy cares fade, with things and people you love becoming the focus. Home is central to one's life, primarily emotional, and partially physical.

Phrases related include:

  • "home is where you hang your hat"
  • "home is where the heart is"
  • "love makes a house a home"
  • "there's no place like home ", (Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz)
  • "you can't go home again" (Tom Wolfe)

Ultimately home is highly individual, and personal, and is arrived at in different ways. It can be; the place of your birth, where you grew up, or maybe your first apartment, or house. Realistically still, without emotions and people, those are all just boxes.

Cultural references

As Neil Gaiman wrote in American Gods: "He wondered whether home was a thing that happened to a place after a while; or if it was something that you found in the end, if you simply walked and waited and willed it long enough."
