Hollaback Girl

"Hollaback Girl" is the third single from Love. Angel. Music. Baby., the debut solo album by superstar Gwen Stefani and was produced by The Neptunes. Within six weeks of its release in March 2005, the song is currently sitting at the top of the United States Billboard Hot 100, and at number one in many other countries. It is currently at #10 in Canada, but has not yet been released in the UK or Australia.

It includes lines of lyrics including, "This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S", "I heard that you were talking shit", and "I ain't no Hollaback Girl!" This was the first non-R&B, hip-hop or American Idol song to hit #1 on the Hot 100 since Nickelback charted with "How You Remind Me" in late 2001/early 2002.

A "hollaback girl" is a girl that just gossips and talks "smack" behind the offender's back instead of actually confronting a person who has been talking "smack" themselves. In the music video, a hollaback girl uses "verbiage rather than meeting at the bleachers (sans principals and student-teachers) to engage in a pugilistic fracas the outcome of which would determine their relation in the current social hierarchy." [1]

The single was the best selling single in America for three weeks, according to Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart.
