Hexham, New South Wales

Hexham is a locality in New South Wales, Australia.

Hexham is located on the bank of the Hunter River about 15 kilometers inland from the city of Newcastle.

Hexham is also located at the juntion of the Pacific Highway to Brisbane via the coastal route, the New England Highway and the F1 Freeway to Sydney.

Settlement occurred at Hexham in the 1820s and it was named after Hexham, England, both towns being near to a Newcastle.

Hexham is heavily involved with coal mining, and was the riverine terminus of an early coal hauling railway from Minmi and Stockrington.
