Herrenhaus

The German term Herrenhaus is equivalent to the English House of Lords and describes roughly similar institutions as the English House of Lords in German-speaking countries.

More specifically, Herrenhaus, can refer to either of the following:

  • The Herrenhaus was the first chamber of the Prussian parliament. The Herrenhaus building in Leipziger Straße 3–4 in Berlin, designed by the architect Friedrich Schulze-Colditz and erected between 1899 and 1904, is currently the seat of the German Federal Council. See also Prussia.
