Hebron Academy

Hebron Academy is a private, co-ed, college preperatory boarding school located in the small town of Hebron, Maine. Founded in 1804, Hebron Academy has enjoyed a rich history of educating the leaders of the state of Maine, and the United States. US President Abraham Lincoln's first vice-president, Hannibal Hamlin, was a graduate of the school.

The school currently serves grades 6–12. Hebron has an excellent Hockey program, competing in Divison 2 of the prestigious New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association. Other sports compete in both the New England leagues, and the local Maine leagues.

About 200 students attend the school, about half of whom live on campus. The majority of those who board come from the New England region, although there are small numbers form all over the United States. Hebron annually attracts a number of foreign students, either on exchange or for four-year study. Most come from the nations of South Korea, Japan, Germany, and the region of Latin America.

Hebron Academy is quite isolated from the outside world, on a beautiful 1,500 acre campus. The small town adjacent to the school consists of only a fire station and a post office. Shopping, dining, and lodging are located about 20 minutes away. With few distractions from study, many believe the isolation contributes to the school's positive learning atmosphere

Daily life

Daily life at Hebron largely consists of acedemic and athletic pursuits. The school day begins early in the morning when all students and faculty are assembled in the small chapel for the daily meeting. Here announcements are made concerning school business. Classes then begin and last until the afternoon, with a break for lunch at the cafeteria. In the afternoon every student is required to participate in an afternoon activity. Most actvities are competitive athletics, but outdoor education class, art, music, and drama programs are also offered. Following afternoon activies most day students go home, while boarding students have free time until dinner is served. Following dinner, there is another period of free time after which study hall begins. Study hall is a two hour period of required study mandatory for all students living in the dorms. Students must leave their doors open and be at their desk for the two hour period while a faculty member monitors them. Many students feel that the mandatory study program helps them achieve acedemic success. Hebron Academy is not a disciplinary school, the student enviroment is quite relaxed and students do not wear uniforms. The Hebron Academy mascot is the Lumberjack.
