Hasil Adkins

Hasil Adkins, (April 29 1937April 25 2005), nicknamed "The Haze", was a rockabilly musician. This label is a reference to his rural life in Boone County, West Virginia, home of The Dancing Outlaw, Jesco White. His sound has been described as being a little like Elvis Presley meets The Shaggs. Adkins, playing all of his own instruments, recorded scores of small, micro-label 45s. He also invented his own dance, called "The Hunch". In "No More Hot Dogs", he sang about decapitating a woman and mounting her head on his wall: "I'm gonna cut your head off, you can't eat no more hot dogs." Adkins frequently recorded songs about chicken, his favorite food: "Chicken Walk", "Chicken Run", "Chicken Hop", and many others.

After the mid-1990s, he began performing less and became an advocate to music critics and celebrants of all things outsiderish, such as Joe Coleman, Jeffrey Scott Holland, and Norton Records.
