Temiskaming Shores, Ontario

Temiskaming Shores, Ontario is a city in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created by the amalgamation of the communities of New Liskeard, Ontario, Haileybury, Ontario and the Township of Dymond, Ontario. It is located near the Quebec border on the shores of Lake Temiskaming. With a population of slightly over 10,000, Temiskaming Shores was granted city status in 2004.

The local radio station is CJTT-FM (104.5, hot adult contemporary). The area also receives CBC Radio 1 broadcasts from a local tower broadcasting at 102.3 FM.

New Liskeard

New Liskeard is the central region/district/borough of Temiskaming Shores and has a population of approximately 4,800.

History of New Liskeard

1891 – First settled by Europeans (The native settlement had already been abandoned)

1903 – New Liskeard incorporated as a town with John Armstrong (not this John Armstrong) as its first mayor

1922 – Great Fire of 1922 (October 4th)

Dymond

Dymond Township is the northern-most region, district, or borough of Temiskaming Shores. It contains most of the large commercial enterprises (such as Walmart and a line of fast food restaurants) and the city's single mall.

Cobalt, Ontario (population 1,200) – With Haileybury and New Liskeard it was considered as one of the members of the unnofficial conglomerate known as the Tri-Towns. This familiar term is still in use, though many residents of Temiskaming Shores now regard it as passé. Cobalt was originally proposed to be included in the amalgamated city, however they rejected the plan.
