Gush Dan

Gush Dan (גוש דן) is the Hebrew name of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area including areas from both the Tel Aviv District and the Central District of Israel on the Mediterranean coast.

It is the largest metropolitan area in Israel, with a population of approximately 1.75 million. The area includes Tel-Aviv-Jaffa, Holon, Ramat Gan, Givatayim, Petach Tikva, Bnei-Brak, Bat Yam, Herzliya, Ramle, Lod and Rishon Lezion.

Gush Dan also has its own bus line (Dan Bus Cooperative), which is the equivalent of Egged (Israel's biggest bus line) in the area.

The name Gush Dan means Dan Block, and is so named because the area was the territory of the tribe of Dan in the ancient Kingdom of Israel.
