Grande Prairie (55°11′ N 118°53′ W MST) is the chief city of the province of Alberta's northwest section. It is located on the southern edge of the Peace River Country and is 456 km northwest of Edmonton. Grande Prairie is growing rapidly and its population is now estimated to be over 40,000. It is currently Alberta's 7th largest city. Grande Prairie also serves as the economic and transportaion hub for a region of nearly 200,000 people. The city is home to several National Head Offices. Major industries include oil and gas, forestry, and technology.
