Grace Paley
Grace Paley was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1922 of Russian-Jewish immigrant parents. She is a short story writer and political activist. Among her collections of short stories are The Little Disturbances of Man, Enormous Changes at the Last Minute, and Later the Same Day. She is a member of the War Resisters League, and she early opposed the American involvement in the Vietnam War. She was one of "The White House Eleven," who were arrested in December 1978 for unfurling an anti-nuclear banner on the White House lawn. In 1980, she was elected to the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
