Gozo Shioda

Gozo Shioda (September 9, 1915 – July 17, 1994), given 9th dan rank by Morihei Ueshiba in 1961, was the founder of Yoshinkan aikido.

Shioda-sensei was a student of judo while young, and after being easily thrown by Ueshiba-sensei after a demonstration, became his student. He also studied aikijutsu. He has become known as one of the more "fiery" or "vigorous" people of aikido history.
