Golden Banana

Golden Bananas are the primary items to collect in Donkey Kong 64. In that game, King K. Rool and the Kremlings stole Donkey Kong's hoard of 200 bananas to serve as a distraction while the Blast-o-Matic was being repaired. 25 Golden Bananas were spread throughout each level of the game, each playable Kong (Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Lanky Kong, Tiny Kong and Chunky Kong) able to find 5 within the confines of that level. A specific number of Golden Bananas were required to open the portal to every new world, otherwise blocked by the doorman B. Locker. A special 201st banana could be received after rescuing all the Banana Fairies in the game for the Banana Fairy Princess.

The Golden Banana hoard is established as being a different hoard than the one made famous in the original Donkey Kong Country, which consists of regular bananas. Some veterans suggest that the Golden Bananas originated in DK's Jungle Adventure from the original Mario Party, where a Golden Banana "bunch" was the prize to the winning player.
