German national ice hockey team

The German national men's ice hockey team is a national ice hockey team. The German team is not considered to be as elite as Canada, Sweden, Slovakia, the USA, the Czech Republic, Finland or Russia, but they are ranked 8th in the world by the IIHF. Germany has been unable to really breakthrough in the past few years internationally. Their best recent result came in the 2003 World Championships where they finished 6th and lost in a quarter final match with Canada in over-time. The Germans were also able to finish in 5th at the 1996 World Cup after a surprising victory against the Czech Republic. Germany has never won an international competition, their last medal came in the 1934 World Championships- a bronze, and their best finish ever was the 1930 World Championships winning a silver. It is controlled by Deutscher Eishockey Bund. Germany has a total of 25,934 players. Their head coach is Greg Poss
