Georgian people
Georgians (Kartveli Eri or Kartvelebi in Georgian) are a nation or ethnic group (ethnos), originating in the Caucasus. Georgians are one of the Ibero-Caucasian peoples.
Total population of Georgians in the world is estimated at 7,200,000. Four million Georgians live in Georgia, where they represent 83% of the population, but there are also about 1.5 million in Turkey (in the historical Georgian regions of Tao-Klarjeti, Ardagan/Artaani and Lazeti/Lazistan), about 1 million in Russia, about 300,000 in Iran (Fereydoon Shahr, Najaf Abad, Rahmat Abad, Orji Mahalle), about 150,000 in Afghanistan, more than 50,000 in Azerbaijan (Kakhi, Belokani and Zakatala districts, who are parts of the historical Georgian region Saingilo) and about 200,000 in other countries (USA, Germany, the Netherlands, France, etc.).
Ethnographic groups of the Georgian people are: Megrels, Svans, Laz, Imeretians, Guruls, Ajarians, Meskhs, Lechkhums, Rachvels, Kartlis, Kakhetians, Khevsurs, Tushs, Pshavs, Mokhevians, Ingilos.
