Gene FitzGerald
Gene FitzGerald was a senior Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann in a by-election in 1972 as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Cork South Central consituency. He retained his Dáil seat until his retirement from domestic politics in 1987. FitzGerald was also elected to the European Parliament in 1984 and again in 1989 for the Munster constituency. He joined the Cabinet under Jack Lynch in 1977 and later served under Charles Haughey.
