Gee Bee Air Rally
Gee Bee Air Rally was released in 1987 by Activision, as an Amiga game. It's a simulation_game, set in the twenties and early thirties, in which you are the pilot of a small airplane. The goal is to increase your score by flying your airplane through several races and special events.
This game is single-player only, and has three difficulty_levels, which the player must choose between before beginning play. Your airplane is always yellow, and the races follow a pattern of three main events and one special event, which alternates between popping 30 balloons and flying to the right of red pylons and to the left of blue ones.
One main obstacle is avoiding collision with other aircraft. After two collisions, your plane will falter and you are parachuted out. You hear the sound of a parachute opening and see an animation sequence of your character drifting to the ground. This is followed by one of several amusing pictures depicting you in various landing places, such as a pigpen, a parched desert, a tree, and a barnyard of chickens, for example.
Following successful completion of the special event, a picture of your character at an awards ceremony is shown, accompanied by period music. You may also see a photographer take your picture.
The game itself doesn't have a whole lot of variety, but the graphics and sound effects were very well done and the music is a real treat. For a short period of entertainment, this is a great game!
