Gawilghur
Gawilghur is the name of very well fortified stronghold of the Maratha Empire. It was successfully asaulted by Arthur Wellesley (the later Duke of Wellington) in 1803. The fortress can still be visited today.
In popular culture: The campaign to take Gawilghur forms the background of the novel Sharpe's Fortress by Bernard Cornwell.
