Galway United

Galway United F.C. was founded as Galway Rovers in 1937. The club achieved great success at junior level prior to being invited to join the Football League of Ireland in 1977 and made its debut in Terryland Park, Galway, against St. Patricks Athletic on the August 28 of that year. The club currently play in the First Division (the lower of the two tiers in the league).

Galway United won the FAI Cup in 1991, and Football League of Ireland Cup in 1985–86 and 1996–97. The clubs best league finish to date was runners up to Shamrock Rovers in 1985–86. They were First Division champions in 1992–93, runners-up in 1999 and won the First Division Shield in 1992–93 and 1996–97.
