Gakuen Alice

Gakuen Alice (学園アリス) is a manga by Tachibana Higuchi (樋口橘 Higuchi Tachibana). In Japan, it is currently featured in the Hana to Yume (花とゆめ) shoujo (i.e. for girls) comic magazine and aired on NHK BS 2 as anime.

Story

Hotaru and Mikan grew up in small town as best friends. One day, Hotaru abruptly leaves town and transfers. Mikan chases after Hotaru and soon they both end up in Alice Academy ("Gakuen Alice"), an elite academy for children with special magical abilities known as alices.

Classmates

• Sakura Mikan (佐倉蜜柑, 10/F)

  Main character of the story. An energetic good girl, but time and time again her clumsiness lands her in troubles. While she is below average in academics and the school's star ranking system, she has strong willpower and perseverance. Her "alice," or magical ability, is the ability to disable the alice of others. The academy keeps an eye on her.

• Imai Hotaru (今井蛍, 10/F)

  Mikan's best friend. She is smart and level-headed. Her keen observations of Mikan's mistakes and shortcomings leaves others wondering if they are really best friends. Her alice is the ability to invent.

• Shouda Sumire (正田スミレ, 11/F)

  Self-claimed president of the Natsume and Ruka fanclub. She has a dog-cat alice.

• Tobita Yuu (飛田裕, 11/M)

  Class president. Has the alice of illusion.

• Hyuuga Natsume (日向棗, 10/M)

  A genius but always ditches class. He is generally unhappy with the school. Involved in top-secret missions for the academy. Paired up as Mikan's "partner" by the school's buddy system. He posesses the alice of flames.

• Nogi Ruka (乃木流架, 10/M)

  Natsume's best friend. He has a gentle personality that balances out that of Natsume's. His animal pheromone alice allows him to get cozy with animals.

Faculty members

• Narumi (鳴海)

  Homeroom teacher of Mikan's class. He teaches Japanese. He has the pheromone alice, which allows him to seduce other people, or make them faint.

• Jinno (神野)

  Teaches math. He is least trustful of Mikan. Has the alice of lightning.

• Persona (ペルソナ)

  A mysterious teacher. Wears a mask at all times, in fact. Seems to be the source of much of Natsume's troubles.

Others

• Hijiri Youichi (聖陽一, 3/M)

  Attached to Natsume, but dislikes Mikan. Has the alice of using bad spirits.

• Giant Piyo

  Gigantic chicklet.

• Mr. Bear

  A mute teddy bear with a freedom-loving soul. Commonly referred to as "Bear." Despite its cute outward appearance, it is extremely short-tempered and as a result frequently lashes out his incredibly quick and heavy punches to any stranger that approaches him.
