Gaines Trace
The Gaines Trace was constructed in the early 1800s from the Tennessee River (near Muscle Shoals, Alabama) to Cotton Gin Port, Mississippi on the Tombigbee River. It was built by George Strother Gaines to facilitate transportation of goods to Fort Stoddert near St. Stephens, Alabama.
