Gagarin (town)
Gagarin (Russian language: Гага́рин) is a town in Smolensk Oblast, Russia. It stands on the Gzhat River. Geographical location 55°33′ N 34°59′ E.
History
Founded in 1719 as Gzhatsk (Гжатск), town status since 1776. In 1968 the town was renamed Gagarin (after its most famous native, Yuri Gagarin).
