Gag cartoon

A Gag Cartoon is a single-panel cartoon, usually including a written caption that appears beneath the drawing. As the name implies—"gag" being a show business term for a comedic idea—these cartoons are most often intended to provoke laughter. Gag cartoons are distinguished from comics by the fact that they do not include a sequence of related images. Popular magazines that have featured gag crtoons include Punch (UK) and The New Yorker (US).
