GAT-X370 Raider Gundam

In the anime series Gundam Seed, the Earth Alliance collaborates with Muruta Azrael's Azrael Conglomerate to build three second-generation mobile suits to counter the G-units stolen by ZAFT. These designs feature a new variation of Phase Shift armor known as "Trans-Phase". Unlike normal Phase Shift, which drew power constantly, Trans-Phase armor activated only when the mobile suit was hit, and only at the point of impact, reducing the armor's power consumption and increasing combat endurance. In addition, these three suits' pilots were designated as "Living CPUs", with their abilities enhanced by drugs to match those of Coordinators.

One of these was the GAT-X370 Raider Gundam, a transformable attack use mobile suit, whose "Living CPU" was Clotho Buer. Its armament included of a "Zorn" beam cannon in the mouth, a dual shield cannon on the right arm, and a handheld "Mjolnir" hammer. In its bird-like flight mode, the Raider Gundam could also use nose- and shoulder-mounted machineguns, and "Ahura Mazda" beam cannons in the claws. In addition it could serve as a subflight unit for the GAT-X131 Calamity Gundam. The Raider Gundam was first used in the conquest of neutral Orb, then sent to space and assigned to the Archangel class assault ship Dominion under the supervision of Muruta Azrael, who was also the leader of the anti-Coordinator terrorist group Blue Cosmos. Near the end of the war, it was destroyed by Dearka Elsman in the GAT-X103 Buster Gundam.

The Raider Gundam was actually a modification of the GAT-333 Raider Full Spec design, though the Raider Gundam was built before any of the limited production Raider Full Spec suits were completed. The Raider Full Spec was more specialized toward atmospheric flight, at the expense of space combat capablity. It lacked the beam weapons and hammer of the Raider Gundam, and instead used a variable armament of machineguns and missiles mounted on external hardpoints, which could also carry propellant tanks or extra thrusters. One of the Raider Full Specs was piloted by ace Edward Harrelson, and another was acquired by Orb's Rondo Sahaku faction.
